Olef Dam | Eifel National Park

The Olef dam was built between 1954 and 1959. It serves to protect the surrounding communities from flooding and to provide drinking water for the Oleftal waterworks in Hellental. 1962-1965 the 1st reinforcement was built. In 1965, the valley was completely filled with water for the first time and thus the dam was officially opened. A further reinforcement followed in 1982-1986. The double reinforcements were necessary because the internal stresses and cracks appeared as a result. The dam is a concrete pier-cell construction and is still considered unique in Germany.
